HUTCHINSON, Kan., May 20, 2022 – Karim Belmahdi and Mohlouwa Koos Molutsi will both be competing in the finals of the 1,500-meter run after qualifying on Day 2 of the 2022 NJCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Gowans Stadium on Friday, highlighting a busy day for the Mustangs.
 
Belmahdi ran the fifth fastest time in the preliminary round of the 1500m on Friday, clocking in at 3:57.61. Molutsi also earned his spot in Saturday's finals of the event with a time of 3:58.99.
 
Belmahdi was busy on Friday, as he also ran in the 3,000-meter steeplechase later in the day. He crossed the line in 9:51.10, a valiant effort after having a fall during the race, to take 15th place overall in the event.
 
Prince Mcabelo and Wail Bourahli both ran in the 800-meter run preliminaries on Friday. Mcabelo ran a time of 1:54.58, while Bourahli finished in 1:56.29.
 
Edward Williams Jr. competed in the 110-meter hurdles prelims on Day 2 of the NJCAA Outdoor Championships. He finished the race in 14.68 seconds.
 
Monroe's trip to Kansas wraps up on Saturday with the final day of the 2022 NJCAA Outdoor Championships. The Mustang men begin their day with Belmahdi and Molutsi running in the 1500m finals at 2 p.m. EST. Molutsi will then close out the weekend for Monroe when he competes in the 5,000-meter run finals at 4:50 p.m. EST.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
