WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y., April 9, 2022 – The Monroe College Mustangs baseball team dropped two matchups at Erie Community College on Saturday, the first two games of a three-game series this weekend with the Kats.

GAME 1: Erie 13, Monroe 2 (5 INN)
The Kats jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a Carter Whitehead three-run homer in the bottom of the second in Game 1.
Dante Paolucci gave Monroe its first run of the game in the third with an RBI single. Christian Cabrera padded Erie's lead in the home half of the third with a three-RBI double, making it a 6-1 game. Cabrera later scored on a wild pitch, and then Whitehead hit his second long ball of the day to make it an 8-1 score.

The Mustangs got back on the board in the fourth when
Angel De La Cruz hit an RBI single that scored
Jaison Andujar. Whitehead then plated two more for Erie with a single to put them up by eight. Mason Wright and Greg Hare provided homers in the fifth for the Kats to eventually end the game with a 13-2 final.

Ethan Stevens went all five frames for Erie to earn the win and improve to 2-2.
Roman Dorosh took the loss for Monroe to drop to 1-5.

De La Cruz hit 1-for-2 in Game 1 with an RBI. Paolucci batted 1-for-3 with an RBI as well. Andujar finished 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored.

GAME 2: Erie 10, Monroe 1
The Mustangs got on the board first in Game 2. After a pair of singles by
Miguel Toribio and
Andres Castro,
Salix Felix doubled in Toribio for an early 1-0 lead. The Kats responded with three runs in the first to go up by two. Erie went on to score another two runs in the seven to take a 5-1 advantage, before a four-run third made it a 9-1 game. Erie capped it off with an RBI groundout by Stevens that made it a 10-1 game in the sixth.

Pedro Duran took the loss for Monroe to fall to 1-3.

Felix hit 1-for-2 with an RBI double in Saturday's finale. Toribio scored a run after going 1-for-3. Castro went 1-for-3 as well.

The Mustangs will look to avenge Saturday's losses when they get one more crack at Erie on Sunday, Feb. 10. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
