WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y., April 10, 2022 – The Monroe College Mustangs baseball team dropped the final game of a three-game series at Erie Community College Sunday afternoon by a score of 6-4.

The Mustangs got on the board right away in Sunday's contest.
Miguel Toribio walked to lead off the game, and eventually moved to second on a passed ball. Standing on third with two outs,
Dante Paolucci brought him in with an RBI single into center, putting Monroe ahead, 1-0.

The Mustangs struck again in the third, beginning with a two-out double by Paolucci to keep the inning going. After
Salix Felix was hit by a pitch,
Jaison Andujar singled to right, scoring Paolucci to make it a 2-0 game.

Erie got a run back in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit in half, but a two-out, two-RBI double by AJ Karosas in the fourth put the Kats on top, 3-2. The Kats added to their lead in the fifth when Carter Whitehead hit a two-RBI single to make it a 5-2 ballgame. Erie later added one more run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Greg Hare to bring the score to 6-2.

The Mustangs cut into the lead in the top of the eighth. Andujar singled to lead off the inning, and then
Kristopher Salinas moved him to second with a groundout. Andujar went to third on a passed ball, and then a groundout to second by Villalba brought Andujar in to get Monroe within three.
Nathaniel Alvarez then stroked a solo homer to right field, making it a 6-4 game, but that proved to be the end of Monroe's scoring for the game.

Dylan Moorhouse got the win for Erie to improve to 2-2 on the year, while Sam Calcaterra tossed the final three frames to earn his first save.
Andrelis Payampas took the loss for Monroe after yielding three earned runs across six frames, falling 1-3.

Paolucci had a big day, hitting 4-for-5 with a run, an RBI and a double in the game. Andujar went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Alvarez batted 1-for-4 with a solo homer, while Toribio hit 1-for-4 with a run scored. Salinas finished 1-for-3, while
Angel De La Cruz hit 1-for-5.

The Mustangs will look to bounce back Tuesday, April 12, when they host Div. III No. 2 Rowan College of South Jersey – Cumberland at Dick Caswell Field for a nine-inning contest. Tuesday's matchup is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
