GREENSBORO, N.C., April 23, 2022 – For the third time this outdoor season,
Karim Belmahdi has improved upon the Monroe College outdoor 1,500-meter run record, leading numerous athletes from the No. 23-ranked Monroe College Mustangs men's track and field team who set new personal-best times at Day 1 of the Aggie Classic, hosted by North Carolina A&T State University.
Â
Belmahdi has run the 1500m three times during the 2022 outdoor season, and each time he has set, and then re-set, the Monroe College record in the event. On Friday, Belmahdi took nearly two more seconds off the record, finishing with a time of 3:49.59. This time gave him third place out of 32 runners in the event, and would stand as the third-fastest time in the NJCAA so far this season.
Â
Mohlouwa Koos Molutsi also ran in the 1500m on Friday, and also turned in a terrific result. Molutsi finished right behind Belmahdi, running a new personal-best time of 3:52.39 for a fourth-place finish in the event. Molutsi's time now stands as the third fastest in program history and improves his qualifying time for the 2022 NJCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the event.
Â
DeShawn Williams was the third Mustang to compete in the 1500m on Friday. Williams also produced his fastest time ever in the event, clocking in at 4:38.01 to shave nearly 13 seconds off of his previous top collegiate mark.
Â
Javel Best and
Matthew Paul both ran in the 200-meter dash on Friday. Best set a new personal-fastest time of 22.08 seconds. Paul clocked in at 22.45 seconds.
Â
Jonathan Hackshaw improved his time in the 400-meter hurdles. He ran a new personal-best time of 57.50 seconds, getting him closer to NJCAA qualification in the event.
Â
Day 2 of the Aggie Classic will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 23.
