PRINCETON, N.J., April 16, 2022 – The No. 24-ranked Monroe College Mustangs men's track and field team had another impressive outing on Saturday, with numerous Mustangs improving their times in a number of events on Day 2 of the Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton University at Weaver Stadium.
Mohlouwa Koos Molutsi got the day started for the Mustangs in the 1,500-meter run. Molutsi clocked in with a time of 3:55.94, a new personal-best time that improves upon his qualifying time in the event for the 2022 NJCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Four Mustangs ran in the 400-meter dash on Saturday.
Javel Best was the top Mustang finisher with a time of 48.97 seconds for a new personal and season-best time.
Matthew Paul was next at 49.36, while
Tyhir Jones was right behind him at 49.51.
Tendai Nyoni finished the race in 50.32 seconds.
Jonathan Hackshaw and
DeShawn Williams competed in the 800-meter run. Hackshaw turned in a season and personal-best time of 2:00.60 in the race. Williams crossed the line in 2:16.50.
Edward Williams Jr. qualified for the finals of the 110-meter hurdles after clocking in at 14.53 seconds in the first round. He then ran a time of 14.50 in the finals to take sixth place overall.
The Mustangs head back down to North Carolina next weekend to take part in the Aggie Classic, hosted by North Carolina A&T State University. The two-day meet in Greensboro, N.C. will run from Friday, April 22, through Saturday, April 23.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
