PRINCETON, N.J., April 16, 2022 – Already the owner of Monroe College's outdoor 1,500-meter run record,
Karim Belmahdi improved upon his record on Friday to highlight the No. 24-ranked Monroe College Mustangs men's track and field team's day on Day 1 of the Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton University at Weaver Stadium.
Belmahdi outperformed his previous outdoor 1500m mark on Friday to set the new Monroe College outdoor record in the event. He clocked in at 3:51.21 in the event, defeating the time he set back at the Raleigh Relays by more than three seconds. Belmahdi also moves up the NJCAA's qualification list with his improved time in the event.
Prince Mcabelo and
Wail Bourahli also competed on Friday for the Mustangs, as both ran in the 800-meter run. Mcabelo clocked in with a time of 1:52.46, while Bourahli crossed the finish line in 1:54.53.
Day 2 of the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University is set for Saturday, April 16. The meet begins at 11 a.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
