NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., February 10, 2022 – The Monroe College Mustangs women's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end on Thursday, as the Mustangs dropped an 86-56 final to Putnam Science Academy at the Monroe Athletic Complex. Monroe falls to 13-13 with the loss, while Putnam Science improves to 9-5.

Naomi Barnwell had Monroe up, 6-5, a minute into Thursday's contest. Putnam Science then went on a 20-2 run until
Anais Rosa was fouled with 0.3 left in the quarter. Rosa made the first of her two chances at the line, sending the game to the second with the visitors ahead, 25-9.
Putnam Science picked up five of the first six points in the second frame to go up, 30-10. Monroe scored the next six, but a three by Putnam's Ines Goryanova halted Monroe's run. The visitors went on a 7-2 run to take a 40-19 edge, eventually taking a 44-22 lead into the break.
Both teams were nearly even in the third quarter, but Putnam Science held a 24-18 edge in the period to take a 68-40 lead into the fourth. It was much the same in the final frame, with Putnam Science securing the 86-56 win.
Barnwell led Monroe with 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the game.
Sara Carvajal-Caro finished with 15 points, three boards and two assists. Wentz added nine points and four rebounds.
Aysia Pink totaled seven points, seven rebounds and a pair of assists.
The Mustangs will look to bounce back on Saturday, Feb. 12, when they visit Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pa., for a rematch from this past Tuesday at the MAC. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
