VALHALLA, N.Y., December 6, 2022 – After a tough defeat Monday evening, the Monroe College Mustangs women's basketball team reversed its fortunes in a big way on Tuesday, defeating Westchester Community College, 107-46, at Viking Gymnasium. The Mustangs improve to 7-5 overall with their highest point total of the season, while the Vikings fall to 3-7.
Four Mustangs totaled 17-or-more points in the win.
Aysia Pink had a huge day from the three-point line, making 8-of-16 long balls en route to a 26-point evening to lead all scorers.
Khalia Bryant was right behind her, totaling 23 points to go with a team-high 13 rebounds for a big double-double.
Sara Carvajal-Caro joined Bryant with a double-double of her own, finishing with 18 points and 11 boards in the win.
Naomi Barnwell added 17 points with six rebounds and four steals in the game.
Helena Macuei pulled down 12 boards with six points, while
Paetynn Gray led the team with four blocked shots.
The Mustangs will look to ride that momentum into a challenging weekend trip back down to Florida. Monroe's trip to Niceville, Fla., begins against host No. 4 Northwest Florida State College on Friday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. EST. Monroe then challenges No. 8 Eastern Florida State College on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 1 p.m. EST. Both games will be played at Northwest Florida State's Raider Arena.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 11 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
