Monroe Mustangs Women’s Basketball Cracks Century Mark in Win over Montgomery

ROCKVILLE, Md., November 12, 2022 – The Monroe College Mustangs women's basketball team surpassed the 100-point plateau for the first time this season in a 102-55 victory over Montgomery College on Saturday on the first day of the Montgomery Tip-Off Classic. The Mustangs improve to 3-1 overall with the win, while the Raptors drop to 1-2.
 
Olivia Medford led all scorers with 21 points in the win, adding three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Paetynn Gray was next with 15 points. Amiyah Edney-Holmes came off the bench to score 12 points. Sara Carvajal-Caro totaled eight points, eight rebounds, two blocks and two assists in the game. Khalia Bryant scored nine points and pulled down seven boards. Aysia Pink tallied eight points and led the team with five assists. Tanae Arnold contributed five points, four assists and three steals. Carlota Gomez-Alonso led the team with nine rebounds, adding five points and three takeaways.
 
The Mustangs shot 45.1 percent (37-of-82) from the field in the win, as well as 47.4 percent (9-of-19) from three-point range. Monroe held a significant 65-39 edge in rebounds.
 
The Mustangs wrap up their weekend in Maryland on Sunday, Nov. 13, when they take on Howard Community College. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 11 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
