ROCKVILLE, Md., November 13, 2022 – The Monroe College Mustangs women's basketball team outscored Howard Community College, 45-31, in the second half on Sunday, leading to the Mustangs' 76-64 victory over the Dragons on the final day of the Montgomery Tip-Off Classic, hosted by Montgomery College. The Mustangs improve to 4-1 overall after a 2-0 weekend, while the Dragons fall to 2-3.
Naomi Barnwell led the Mustangs with 13 points and eight rebounds in the win. Olivia Medford picked up 10 points and four boards, while leading the team with six assists and four steals. Amiyah Edney-Holmes matched Medford's four steals, adding nine points and three assists. Sara Carvajal-Caro tallied 10 points with seven rebounds.
The Mustangs get Monday off before going back to work on Tuesday, Nov. 15, when they, and the men's team, host Harford Community College in a doubleheader at the Monroe Athletic Complex. Tip-off for the women's game is set for 5 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 11 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
