JV Men’s Soccer Drops Season Opener to BMCC, 2-1

New York, NY – The Monroe College men's JV soccer team played a well-fought, evenly matched game that came right down to the end on Friday, ultimately losing the season-opener to the Borough of Manhattan Community College, 2-1.

The first 20 minutes of action featured some disciplined play from the Mustangs. They controlled possession and picked out their scoring chances. This patience was rewarded in the 20th minute, when Alejandro Pizarro chipped a ball to Akwasi Asari, who headed it past the goalie for a goal. Monroe led 1-0.

BMCC responded ten minutes later with the equalizer, and the game stayed at 1-1 until the 40th minute, when the Panthers scored again off a long shot that got past Carlos Ortega from beyond the 18-yard box.

BMCC maintained their lead at 2-1 into the second half. The final 15 minutes saw Monroe push everyone forward, forcing BMCC to drop back and defend. The Mustangs had several scoring chances and even hit the crossbar twice. In the end, the Panthers held on to a hard-fought, 2-1 victory.

The team will return to action on Friday, September 16th, against Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia at 6:00 PM.
