Rockville, Md. - Like their varsity counterparts, the Monroe College men's junior varsity basketball team opened the season in Maryland. The team fell to Montgomery Community College, 85-68, but rebounded to defeat Southern Maryland, 78-63.
Three Mustangs finished in double figures in the loss to Montgomery. Leading the way was freshman,
Jason Barrera, who finished with 23 points. The guard also pulled down eight rebounds and blocked a pair of shots. His backcourt mate,
Antoine Lewis, pumped in 20 points and grabbed four boards. Finally, Azmi Abu-Ahmad scored 11.
In the victory over Southern Maryland, Abu-Ahmad just missed a double-double, scoring 18 and collecting nine rebounds. Lewis finished with 15, while Barerra totaled ten. Chianta Holtclaw also flirted with a double-double, grabbing ten rebounds while scoring eight points.
The Monroe College junior varsity basketball team returns to action on Friday, November 13, when they face Concord Prep at the Robinson School Invitational in Newark, New Jersey. The opening tip is slated for 8:15 PM.
