New Rochelle, NY – Behind a 30-point effort from sophomore
Luther Reid Jr., the Monroe University JV men's basketball team earned a 91-73 victory over Touro University on Sunday afternoon.
Reid Jr. was on fire from beyond the arc, connecting on eight threes and 11 field goals overall to finish with a new season-high. It wasn't just one half either as Reid Jr. scored 17 in the first half and 13 in the second half to help catapult the Mustangs to the win.
Sophomore
Turone Kelley Jr. chipped in 15 points on the day, while freshman
Delano Evans was a beast on the boards, corralling 15, including six offensive rebounds. Evans also contributed six points to the 18-point differential over the Tornadoes.
It was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment in the opening minutes of the first half as Monroe took a 35-10 advantage just under seven minutes into the contest. Back-to-back threes from sophomore

At 20-4, the Mustangs made five consecutive threes on six possessions.
A buzzer-beating jumper from sophomore
De'Angelo Owens put the Mustangs up 47-31 at the break, and while Touro kept pace with Monroe in the second half, the first half deficit was too large to overcome.
A rematch with Touro is on the schedule next for the Mustangs as their season begins to wind down. Tip-off on Wednesday, February 12, is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
