TRENTON, N.J. – The Monroe University softball team (22-20 overall) dropped its final regular-season games to Mercer County CC (35-3 overall) by scores of 5-3 and 7-8 on Tuesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)
·     Mercer County took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning off a pair of RBI doubles.
·     The Mustangs tallied their first runs of the game in the top of the fourth inning off an RBI groundout by Lizbeth Zambrano to cut the Mercer County lead to 3-1.
·     In the bottom of the inning, Mercer County scored another run off an RBI single to center field to give them a 4-1 lead.
·     In the top of the fifth inning, the Mustangs tallied two runs off an error and a steal of home plate by Carsyn O'Daniels to cut the Mercer County lead to 4-3.
·     Mercer County sealed the victory in the bottom of the sixth inning off an RBI double to give them the 5-3 victory.
GAME 2
·     Mercer County opened the scoring in game two in the bottom of the second inning off an RBI single to left field to put them ahead 2-0.
·     Then in the top of the third inning, the Mustangs tallied three runs off RBI singles by Sophia Davis and Anaya Sanchez, and an O'Daniels RBI double to give the Mustangs a 3-2 lead.
·     Then in the bottom of the third inning, Mercer County tacked on two runs off an RBI double and sacrifice fly out to give them a 4-3 lead.
·     In the top of the fourth inning, a two-RBI triple by Davis and a fielder's choice RBI groundout by Richellys Rodriguez put the Mustangs back in the lead 6-4.
·     In the bottom of the fourth inning, Mercer County took back the lead off a two-RBI single and sacrifice fly out to give them a 7-6 lead.
·     The Mustangs evened the score in the top of the fifth inning off a Kerris Johnson fielder's choice ground out, tying the game at 7-7.
·     In the bottom of the fifth inning, Mercer County scored in the winning run off an RBI double to right field to win the game 8-7.
STATS AND NOTES
·     Mercer County now leads the all-time series 26-2.
·     Sophia Davis tallied her first collegiate triple in game two.
·     O'Daniels recorded her second double of the season in game two.
·     The Mustangs finished the regular season with a 22-20 overall record. It's the eighth time in the program's history they've finished with 20 wins or more in a season.
