GARNERVILLE, N.Y. – The Monroe University softball team (24-20 overall) swept Harford CC (13-15 overall) in the NJCAA Regional opening round on Friday afternoon, winning by scores of 11-3 and 15-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)
·     The Mustangs opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning off an RBI single to right field by Gabriella Pugliese to put the Mustangs ahead 1-0.
·     In the same inning, Sophia Davis launched a two-RBI triple to increase the Mustangs' lead to 3-0.
·     A pair of RBI singles by Carsyn O'Daniels and Reese Surratt closed the bottom of the first inning to give the Mustangs a 5-0 lead.
·     In the bottom of the second inning, Lizbeth Zambrano ripped an RBI single to left field, giving the Mustangs a 6-0 lead.
·     Later in the inning, Richeilys Rodriguez reached first on an error, scoring a run to put the Mustangs in a comfortable 7-0 lead.
·     In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Mustangs tacked on four more runs, beginning with an RBI single by Zambrano to give the Mustangs an 8-0 lead.
·     Then Zoe Thomson launched a two-RBI triple to left field, putting the Mustangs ahead 10-0.
·     Surratt sealed the scoring off a single to the shortstop, scoring a run to put the Mustangs in a comfortable 11-0 lead.
·     The Fighting Owls could only score three runs in the top of the fifth inning coming off an RBI single, double, and fielder's choice, resulting in the Mustangs' 11-3 victory.
Game 2
·     An RBI triple to left field by Pugliese opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.
·     Later in the inning, O'Daniels singled to center field, scoring a run which put the Mustangs ahead 2-0.
·     In the bottom of the second inning, the Mustangs piled on six runs, starting with another RBI triple by Thomson, putting the Mustangs ahead 3-0.
·     Pugliese then ripped an RBI single to second base, adding to the Mustangs' lead with their fourth run of the game.
·     Sophia Davis then launched a two-RBI single to right field, giving the Mustangs a 6-0 lead.
·     Zambrano followed with a two-RBI single to right field, putting the Mustangs ahead 8-0.
·     In the bottom of the third inning, the Mustangs piled on more runs as Reese Surratt ripped an RBI single to center field, giving the Mustangs a 9-0 lead.
·     Then Kerris Johnson launched an inside the park home run to left field, which scored in two more runs, giving the Mustangs an 11-0 lead.
·     Davis soon followed with an RBI double to left field, putting the Mustangs ahead 12-0.
·     O'Daniels later contributed in the inning with a two-run home run to right field, putting the Mustangs out in front 14-0.
·     Amanda Reyes sealed the victory in the inning as she singled to left field to give the Mustangs the 15-0 lead.
STATS AND NOTES
·     The Mustangs lead the all-time series with Harford 18-8.
·     Reese Surratt tallied her 100th career hit during the series.
·     Kelsea Bauer picked up the win in game two, going 4.1 innings and allowing just two hits.
·     Zoe Thomson pitched in game one, going all five innings and allowing just three runs on five hits while striking out six batters.
·     O'Daniels tallied her first home run of the season while Johnson recorded her third.

·     The Mustangs head to South Carolina to play in the NJCAA Region 10 tournament beginning on Thursday, April 30. The opponent is TBD.
