SPARTANBURG, SC. – The Monroe University softball team (26-21 overall) dropped their NJCAA Region 10 winner's bracket final game against No. 1 seeded Gaston (57-4 overall) by a score of 2-0. With the loss, the Mustangs will need a win in the elimination game on Saturday to advance to the championship final.
HOW IT HAPPENED
·     In the bottom of the third inning, Gaston scored the only runs of the game off a pair of RBI doubles to take a 2-0 lead and the eventual victory.
STATS AND NOTES
·     Gaston leads the all-time series 11-1.
·     The Mustangs tallied just seven hits in the game while Gaston was held to just four.
·     Zoe Thomson started in the circle for the Mustangs, going three innings, allowing just two runs on three hits and striking out one batter.
·     Kelsea Bauer pitched the remaining half of the game, going three innings, allowing just one hit and striking out two batters.
·     This is only the fourth time this season the Mustangs have been shutout in a game.
UP NEXT
·     The Mustangs will face No. 2 seeded Florence-Darlington Technical College on Saturday, May 2 in an elimination game at 11:00 a.m. Should the Mustangs win, they will face Gaston again in the championship final on Saturday.
