NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Monroe University baseball team (16-19 overall) split their final regular-season home series against Harford CC (42-5 overall) taking the first game 9-6 and falling in the second game 6-2 on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)

·      Harford jumped out to a 2-0 lead off a pair of RBI singles in the top of the first inning.

·      The Fighting Owls added another run in the top of the third inning off a solo home run to left field, giving Harford a 3-0 lead.

·      The Mustangs opened their scoring in the bottom half of the third inning as Jesus Nieves and Nair Jamanika scored on an error by the pitcher to cut the Harford lead to 3-2.

·      Later in the inning, Isaiah Gibbs tallied a sacrifice fly out to center field, scoring a run to tie the game at 3-3.

·      Then in the top of the fifth inning, Harford added a run off an RBI single to the pitcher to give them a 4-3 lead.

·      An throwing error by the shortstop in the top of the sixth inning scored in a run, giving Harford a 5-3 lead.

·      The Mustangs rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring two runs off an RBI single to center field by Marcus Mercado, tying the game at 5-5.

·      In the same inning, Nieves singled to center field, scoring a run to put the Mustangs ahead 6-5.

·      Then Franklin Francisco ripped an three-RBI double to left field, putting the Mustangs in a comfortable 9-5 lead.

·      Harford only salvaged one more run in the top of the seventh inning, resulting in the 9-6 Mustangs victory.

Game 2

·      Harford opened the scoring in game two off an RBI single to right field, giving them a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning.

·      In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Mustangs tied the game at 1-1 off a bases-loaded double-play ground out.

·      Then in the top of the fifth inning, Harford added two runs off an RBI single and wild pitch to give themselves a 3-1 lead.

·      Then in the top of the sixth inning, the Fighting Owls added three more runs off an RBI double, sacrifice fly, and RBI double to give them a 6-1 lead.

·      The Mustangs only added one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning off an RBI double by George Gustafson, resulting in the 6-2 loss.

STATS AND NOTES

·      Harford leads the all-time series 31-18.

·      The Mustangs' victory in game one was the first time they have defeated Harford since May 6, 2024.

·      Ricardo Feliz started in game one going 3.1 innings, allowing two earned runs and struck out five batters.

·      Marcus Mercardo tallied his seventh three-hit game of the series, which came in game one of the doubleheader.
