SEWELL, N.J. – The Monroe University softball team (22-18 overall) split their pair of games against Rowan College of Gloucester County (23-5 overall) 9-8 and 12-0 on Thursday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)
·     The Mustangs took an early lead in the top of the first inning off a sacrifice fly by Lizbeth Zambrano to put the Mustangs ahead 1-0.
·     The Roadrunners countered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning coming off an error and sacrifice fly to give them a 2-1 lead.
·     In the top of the third inning, a sacrifice fly by Gabriella Pugliese tied the game at 2-2.
·     Then in the bottom of the third inning, the Roadrunners tacked on seven runs off an RBI single, RBI double, and three errors to give them a 9-2 lead.
·     Then in the top of the fifth inning, Pugliese ripped an RBI single to the second baseman to cut the Mustangs' lead to 9-3.
·     Also in the inning, Zambrano knocked in another run off an RBI single to center field, narrowing the Roadrunners' lead to 9-4.
·     In the top of the sixth inning, Kerris Johnson knocked in another run off an RBI single to left field, scoring in two runs to cut Rowan's lead to 9-6.
·     In the same inning, Pugliese reached on an error by the second baseman, which scored in a run to narrow the Rowan lead to 9-7.
·     The Mustangs' last run came off a single to right field by Jaleila Aupont in the top of the seventh inning, resulting in the 9-8 loss.
Game 2
·     In the top of the second inning, Carsyn O'Daniels launched a two-RBI triple to right field to put the Mustangs ahead 2-0.
·     Then in the top of the third inning, Zambrano knocked in an RBI single to the shortstop to give the Mustangs a 3-0 lead.
·     In the top of the fourth inning, an inside-the-park home run by Johnson scored in four runs to give the Mustangs a 7-0 lead.
·     The Mustangs sealed the victory early in the top of the sixth inning, scoring five more runs off an Aupont two-RBI single, Anaya Sanchez two-RBI single, and Reese Surratt two-RBI single to result in the 12-0 victory.
STATS AND NOTES
·     The all-time series with the Roadrunners is now tied at 8-8.
·     Aupont tallied her eighth hit of the season, tallying two in each game, which is tied for her most hits in a single game this season.
·     Pugliese upped her hit-streak to 19 games, going 1-3 in game two and 2-4 in game one.
·     Aupont also had a solid day in the circle in game two, going all six innings striking out 13 batters and allowing just two hits.
