Raleigh, NC – The Monroe University women's outdoor track & field team competed at the historic Raleigh Relays this weekend, highlighted by standout performances from Kaliyah Jones and Brooke Sheppard, who both punched their tickets to the 2026 NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Jones opened the meet with a strong showing in the 400m, running 55.81 in her outdoor season debut. The second-year standout from Nevis not only secured a national qualifying mark but also recorded the second-fastest time of her career. She returned later in the meet to post a personal-best 24.88 in the 200m.
Sheppard also impressed in her outdoor debut, clocking 2:18.03 in the 800m to earn her spot at nationals.
Three Mustangs made their season debuts at the meet. Freshman Keishwanna Phillip ran 56.56 in the 400m, while sophomore Brinel Thomas posted a 25.64 in the 200m. Freshman Zanya Belfon added a 27.14 in the same event.
In the 4x400m relay, the team of Brooke Sheppard, Sarah-Lea Cohen, Tanesia Gardiner, and Keishwanna Phillip delivered one of the top performances of the meet, finishing in 3:53.57. Sheppard led off with a 57.92 split, followed by Cohen in 59.96. Gardiner ran 58.18 on the third leg before Phillip anchored the relay in 57.53.
