Durham, NC–The Monroe University women's outdoor track and field team had a solid weekend at the Duke Invitational.
Sophomore Tanesia Gardiner participated in two events over the weekend at the Duke Invitational. She ran a personal best time in the 1500m on Friday with a time of 5:03.04. Freshman Brooke Sheppard also ran the 1500m on Friday with a time of 5:06.89.
On Saturday, three Mustangs were featured in the 400m, with sophomore Kaliyah Jones ninth overall, clocking in a personal best time of 55.21. Freshman Analissa Redmond in her second competition of the season ran her collegiate personal best time of 57.58 and sophomore Sarah-Lea Cohen ran a time of (58.35).
The 1600m relay team of freshman Analissa Redmond and Brooke Sheppard alongside sophomores Tanesia Gardiner and Kaliyah Jones rose to the challenge with one of the fastest performances of the day in the event. The quartet punched their ticket to the national championship in the event with a season-best time of 3:49.62, which is the second fastest time run in the program's history.
Redmond opened the race with a 59.05 split on the first leg to set the tone. Sheppard followed with a 58.09 split on the second leg. Gardiner handled the third leg in 57.55 before handing the baton to Jones, who anchored the team in a time of 54.93.
The Mustang women will head to Baltimore, MD, to take part in the Morgan State Legacy on Friday and Saturday.
