BALTIMORE, Md. - The Monroe University women's outdoor track and field team competed at the Morgan State Legacy this weekend to mark the halfway point of the season.
Sophomore Tanesia Gardiner participated in the 800m over the weekend. She ran a personal best time of 2:16.53, which is not only a personal best time for her but also her performance qualifiers her for the National Championships in May. Freshman Brooke Sheppard also ran in the 800m. Sheppard ran a personal best time of 2:15.77, which also improved her rankings on the national championship qualification list.
Sophomore Aleisha Clarke made her season debut in the 100m hurdles. In the preliminary round, Clarke ran a time of 14.67 to qualify for the final later in the day. In the final of the 100m hurdles, Clarke placed sixth overall with a time of 14.62, which just narrowly missed qualification for the national championships by 0.01.
Freshman Keishwanna Phillip ran a time of 12.27 in the 100m preliminaries. Two Mustangs were featured in the 400m; sophomore Sarah-Lea Cohen placed fifth overall and ran a season-best time of 57.01. Freshman Latejah Bailey, in her second competition of the season, ran a personal-best time of 1:00.13. Two Mustangs were featured in the 200m; freshman Keishwanna Phillip placed third overall and ran a personal best time of 25.03. Cohen ran a personal best time of 26.04.
The Mustangs will next compete in the prestigious Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, PA. The three-day meet will begin on Thursday.
