NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Monroe University baseball team (7-12 overall) captured a pair of victories on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Roxbury CC 13-0 and Rockland CC 10-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)
·     The Mustangs jumped out to a 1-0 lead over Roxbury off a wild pitch which scored a run from third base in the bottom of the first inning.
·     In the bottom of the second inning, the Mustangs tallied six runs off a two-RBI single by Jesus Nieves, two-RBI double by Isaiah Gibbs, and a two-RBI triple by Nair Jamanika to put the Mustangs ahead 7-0.
·     In the following inning, the Mustangs tacked on three more runs off two RBI singles and one RBI double to increase the Mustangs' lead to 10-0.
·     In the same in Justin Parsons increased the Mustangs' advantage to 12-0 off a two-RBI double as the game headed into the top of the fourth inning.
·     The Mustangs sealed the victory in the bottom of the fourth inning as Marcus Mercado scored on an error to complete the 13-0 victory.
Game 2
·     The Mustangs opened the second game coming against Rockland CC with six runs in the bottom of the first inning courtesy of two two-RBI singles by Juan Garcia and Gibbs as well as two bases-loaded walks to put the Mustangs ahead 6-0.
·     In the bottom of the second inning, the Mustangs added a run off an error by the shortstop to put Monroe ahead 7-0.
·     Gibbs then ripped an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning to increase the Mustangs' lead to 8-0.
·     The Mustangs sealed the game in the bottom of the fifth inning off a bases-loaded balk and RBI single to take the 10-0 victory.
STATS AND NOTES
·     Monroe leads the all-time series against Rockland CC 17-7.
·     Ronald Pena picked up the Mustangs' victory in game one, going 2.2 innings, allowing just one hit and striking out six batters.
·     In the game two, Alan Tejada Henriquez captured the win going all five innings, allowing just two hits and striking out six batters.
·     Gibbs led the way on the offensive front, going 2-3 at the dish tallying four RBIs.
·     Gibbs also went 2-3 with three RBIs in game one.
