GALVESTON, Texas–The Monroe University softball team (7-3 overall) continued their Texas trip, dropping a pair of games to Galveston College (12-0 overall) 3-2 in game one and 15-0 in game two.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)
· The Mustangs took an early lead in the top of the second inning courtesy of an error by the third baseman, which would score Alexis Ortiz and Gabriella Pugliese to put the Mustangs ahead 2-0.
· In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Whitecaps got on the scoreboard off an error by the shortstop, scoring a run to narrow the Mustangs' lead to 2-1.
· Then, in the bottom of the sixth, the Whitecaps took the lead and never left after a two-RBI single to right field to seal a 3-2 victory.
Game 2
· The Whitecaps opened game two with an RBI single and a two-RBI double oto give them a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
· In the bottom of the second inning, the Whitecaps tacked on four more runs off three home runs to give them a 7-0 lead.
· Then, in the bottom of the third inning, a sacrifice fly by the Whitecaps scored one run to give them an 8-0 lead.
· The Whitecaps sealed the game scoring seven runs, which featured a pair of home runs, a two-RBI single and an RBI double to give the Whitecaps the 15-0 win.
STATS AND NOTES
· This is just the second time this season the Mustangs have been shutout in a game.
· The Whitecaps continue to lead the all-time series 10-0.
· The Mustangs out-hit the Whitecaps 4-3 in game one of the doubleheader.
· Jaleila Aupont started in the circle in game one, going six innings and allowing just two earned runs while striking out seven batters.
