HOUSTON, Texas–The Monroe University softball team (7-1 overall) split their opening series in Texas against San Jacinto (7-9 overall) taking game one 12-3 and falling in game two 16-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)
·     The Mustangs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning off a passed ball, which scored Reese Surratt from third base to give the Mustangs the early lead.
·     San Jacinto would tie the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the second off an RBI single to left field.
·     The Ravens took the lead later in the inning on a passed ball, scoring a runner from third to give the Ravens a 2-1 lead.
·     In the top of the third, Lizbeth Zambrano ripped a single to left field, which scored Kerris Johnson and Surratt to give the Mustangs a 3-2 lead.
·     Later in the inning, Veronika Anderson singled on a line drive to center field, scoring in Zambrano to give the Mustangs a 4-2 lead.
·     In the top of the fourth inning, a sacrifice fly by Gabriella Pugliese scored Zoe Thomson to put the Mustangs ahead 5-2.
·     The Ravens added a run in the bottom half of the fourth off an error to cut the Mustangs' lead to 5-3.
·     The Mustangs tacked on seven runs in the top of the sixth inning, which included a two-RBI single by Pugliese and an RBI single by Richeilys Rodriguez, which aided in the Mustangs' 12-3 victory.
Game 2
·     The Ravens opened game two by scoring five runs off a two-RBI double and a three-RBI double to put the Ravens ahead 5-0 after the first inning.
·     In the bottom of the second inning, the Ravens added nine more runs, which came off four RBI doubles and one error, to give the Ravens a 14-0 lead.
·     The Ravens added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning courtesy of a two-run home run to put the Ravens ahead 16-0.
STATS AND NOTES
·     The Mustangs captured their first win against San Jacinto in program history in game one.
·     San Jacinto now leads the all-time series 15-1.
·     Jaleila Aupont picked up the win in game one, going six innings and allowing just one earned run while striking out four batters.
·     Zambrano and Pugliese each tallied three RBI's in game one, while Rodriguez went 2-3 at the dish with one RBI.
·     The Mustangs tallied 12 hits in game one while holding the Ravens to just six.

·     The Mustangs continue their Texas road trip with a double-header against Galveston College beginning Friday, February 27 at 12:00 p.m.
