BOSTON–The Monroe University men's indoor track and field team competed at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday, with the 1600m relay team earning their spot at the 2026 NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Modou Sanneh was dominant in the 400m event, highlighting a phenomenal day for the Mustangs. The second-year native of Gambia ran a time of 46.28 in the 400m, which not only won the event but also punched his ticket to the national championship. Sanneh's 400m time is also the fastest indoor time in Mustang history, a new school record which was set two weeks ago by his teammate
Shaquane Toussaint, a new Gambian national record, and currently ranks him number one in the NJCAA across all divisions.
Shaquane Toussaint was dominant in two events, highlighting a phenomenal day for the Mustangs. The first-year native of Grenada placed second overall in the 400m invite with a posted time of 46.48. He returned shortly after to compete in the 200m, clocking a blistering 20.97. The time placed him second overall in the event and shattered the previous school record, which he set just two weeks ago at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, and became the fastest indoor mark in program history. It also marked a career best and ranks second nationally across all NJCAA divisions, capping an impressive day for the freshman.

Yassine Rahoui recorded an indoor personal-best 1:56.36 in the 800m, finishing just two-tenths of a second shy of the qualifying mark. Freshman
Jaheim Lawrence also ran in the event and posted a time of 2:07.99.
Freshman
Boitshepo Mashilo competed in the men's 1000m run with a personal best time of 2:31.75, which just narrowly missed qualification by four-tenths of a second.
Four Mustangs competed in both the 60m and 200m runs; freshman
Emilio Bishop ran a time of 7.02 in the 60m and a personal-best time of 22.16 in the 200m. Freshman
Keba Cisse ran a time of 7.64 in the 60m and a personal best time of 23.97 in the 200m. Sophomore best
Elijah Upsher ran a time of 7.73 in the 60m and a personal best time of 23.94 in the 200m. Sophomore
Micah McHardy ran a time of 7.82 in the 60m and a personal best time of 24.11 in the 200m.

Emilio Bishop, and
Modou Sanneh rose to the challenge with one of the fastest performances of the day in the event. The quartet punched their ticket to the national championship in the event with a time of 3:16.06, which is the second fastest time ran in the program's history. Rahoui, an 800m specialist, opened the race with a 51.35 split on the first leg to set the tone. Toussaint followed with a 46.52 split on the second leg. Bishop handled the third leg in 51.52 before handing the baton to Sanneh, who anchored the team in a time of 46.68.
Rahoui, and the Mustangs will have one final tune-up before traveling to Topeka, KS, for nationals. It will be the Fast Track Invitational on Friday, February 20, at 1:00 pm at Staten Island.
