Staten Island, NY – The Monroe University women's indoor track and field team made its season debut at the STAC Invitational at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Friday afternoon.
Sophomore Sarah Lea-Cohen had an impressive run for the Mustangs, placing third overall in the women's 400m. The sophomore from France recorded a time of 59.00, which is also an indoor personal best mark for her as well. Her performance set the tone for a solid outing for the Mustangs in their season opener.
Sophomore Tanesia Gardiner made her season debut in the Mile on Friday; she ran a personal best time and placed fourteenth overall with a time of 5:40.21.
Several more Mustangs made their collegiate and season debuts at the St. Thomas Aquinas Invitational in the 200m. Freshman Keishawnna Phillip led the way for the Mustangs, placing fourth overall in the event with a time of 26.05. Sophomore Brinel Thomas was the next mustang finisher with a time of 26.56, freshman Zanya Belfon finished with a time of 28.47, freshman Latejah Bailey finished in a time of 29.05, and Brittania Vidal was the final finisher for the Mustangs with a time of 34.33.
The Mustangs will make their home debut next Friday, January 16th, at the Ramapo Invitational at the Nike Armory Track & Field Complex in Manhattan.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
