New York, NY – The Monroe University Women's Indoor Track and Field team competed at the Ramapo Invitational on Friday, marking its second meet of the 2026 season.
Sophomore Sarah Lea Cohen delivered an impressive performance for the Mustangs, placing second overall in the women's 400m. Cohen ran a season-best time of 58.03, setting the tone for a strong day for Monroe. Joining Cohen in the 400m was freshman Latejah Bailey, who clocked a time of 1:02.48.
Sophomore Brinel Thomas placed eighth overall in the women's 60m, posting a time of 7.97. Thomas, Cohen, and Bailey all competed again for the Mustangs in the 200m. Thomas finished ninth overall with a season-best time of 25.74, Cohen recorded a time of 26.34, and Bailey ran a season-best 27.75 in the event.
Freshman Brooke Sheppard made her season debut in the women's mile, recording a time of 5:35.59. In the women's 3000m, sophomore Tanesia Gardiner placed ninth overall with a time of 11:40.51.
The Mustangs will return to action on Friday, January 23, at a two-day meet hosted by Columbia University. The Dr. Sander Invitational will begin at 9:00 a.m. at The Armory.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
