New Rochelle, NY – The #1-seed Monroe men's basketball team is set to take on #4-seed Allegany College of Maryland in the semi-finals of the East District Tournament on Friday with a spot in Saturday's championship game on the line.
 
After Allegany defeated #5-seed Baltimore City on Friday, the stage was set for Monroe's third meeting of the season against the Trojans. The Mustangs defeated the Trojans 89-69 in November as a part of the Monroe Invitational before earning another victory in December at the Jim Brown Memorial Classic.
 
In both games, the Mustangs used a balanced offensive attack to defeat Allegany. Ten different players scored in the game one, with sophomore Jordan Sanders leading the way with 20 points. In the 108-72 victory in December, 12 different Mustangs recorded points, including five reaching double-figures.
 
The Mustangs have recent postseason history with Allegany, as despite the two wins this season, Monroe is seeking revenge after bowing out in last year's semi-final round of the East District Tournament to the same Trojans. In the year prior, Monroe defeated Allegany 89-78 to punch its ticket to the NJCAA National Tournament.  
 
A trip to the championship game is on the line, with the winner of this game taking on the winner of #2-seed Harcum College and #3-seed Hagerstown Community College.
 
Monroe's contest will follow the first semi-final matchup at 7:00 pm.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
