New Rochelle, NY – The Monroe University JV baseball team earned a dominant, 19-5, victory over Citius Prep on Thursday to improve to 2-1 over the past three days. The Mustangs responded to a 7-4 loss to Citius Prep on Tuesday with an impressive performance on Thursday.
Sophomore
Josh Peralta was a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBIs, while sophomore
Jeurys Cuevas drove in three runs. Freshman
Matthew DeFisher joined Cuevas with three RBIs on the day, while fellow freshman
Iancarlos Rodriguez joined the multi-RBI club with two.
It was a bullpen day for the Mustangs, with sophomore
Diego Arias earning the win after throwing 2.1 innings and allowing just one run on two hits. Freshman
Waldy Peralta closed out the contest with a swinging strikeout in his first appearance on the mound at Monroe.
The Mustangs were on top of Citius Prep from the start, building up a 11-0 lead through the first two innings. The game was broken open with an eight run third, capped off by a two-RBI double from DeFisher.
Monroe coasted from there, marking its first win streak of the season. At 5-9-1, it will take on Touro University on Friday at 11:00 am for its fourth straight day of games.

The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
