Viera, FL – The Monroe University softball team suffered two losses on Friday to move to 1-3 during its eight-game trip to Florida. Game one against Lake Michigan College saw the Mustangs fall, 7-1, before they dropped a contest to Iowa Central Community College, 8-0.
Against the Red Hawks, an early deficit proved costly for the Mustangs. Freshman
Jocelyn Shuman threw 3.1 scoreless innings in relief, while fellow freshman
Reese Surratt returned to the lineup with a 3-for-3 day. But the ability to drive runs wasn't there.
The lone run came in the fourth as a groundball to shortstop led to an error that scored Surratt.
In its second meeting against Iowa Central of the week, Monroe couldn't counter the Tritons. Sophomore
Aisling Wilson collected the lone hit of the ball game for the Mustangs as they suffered another loss due to an early deficit.
Monroe will regroup ahead of its third doubleheader of the weekend. On Saturday, the Mustangs will take on East Georgia State College at 12:30 pm before facing off against Williston State College at 2:30 pm.
