Back-And-Forth Affair Against Rockland Leads To 6-6 Tie For JV Baseball

New Rochelle, NY – The Monroe University JV baseball team played to a 6-6 tie against Rockland Community College on Tuesday. The game ended in the seventh inning after a valiant performance by the team.

Starting on the mound, sophomore Jeremy Jimenez was dealing early on. He ran into trouble in the fourth, leading to his exit, but freshman Mario Bernard picked up the slack with 3.1 innings of work. Bernard allowed two runs (both unearned) while striking out four.

The offense collected just six hits on the day, but found ways to score runs. Sophomores Jeurys Cervas and Melvin Laracuente recorded back-to-back RBI walks before freshman Angel Real scored on a wild pitch in the second.

Rockland's four-run fourth temporarily gave it the lead, however, a double from sophomore Josh Peralta knotted the score up at four.

The back-and-forth continued with the Fighting Hawks scoring two more runs in the fifth. But a sacrifice fly from freshman Yibran Almonte and a passed ball led to another tie at 6-6 in the bottom of the fifth.

From there, the two sides came up short over the final two innings to end the contest in a tie.

Laracuente was the lone Mustang to record multiple hits. He also stole a base on the day.

Monroe will take on Citius Prep on Thursday in its next contest, with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 pm.
