Alvin, TX – The Monroe University softball team came up short in its doubleheader at Alvin Community College on Friday. The Mustangs dropped game one, 9-4, before losing in the second leg of the doubleheader, 4-0.
Early deficits cost the Mustangs in both outings, with Alvin holding onto its lead in both contests after early-inning run support. The Dolphins went up 9-0 by the third inning in game one before taking a 3-0 lead by the fourth inning in game two.
In the opening matchup of the two-game series, freshman
Georgia Wilson followed up her shutout against Roane State Community College in her last outing with a second straight quality start. Wilson yielded just three earned runs on three hits across six innings of work.
Offensively, sophomore
Maricela Colon recorded multiple hits, while sophomore
Nathalie Mongrain and freshman
Lizbeth Zambrano each tallied a double in the contest.
In game two, freshman
Carsyn O'Daniels achieved the multi-hit threshold. Sophomore
Gabrielle Gonzalez recorded the other hit in the outing. Despite the two losses, Monroe outhit Alvin by one across the doubleheader.
The Mustangs will look to end their road trip on a high note when they take on San Jacinto College in another doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
