Houston, TX – The Monroe University softball team concluded its trip to Texas with two losses to San Jacinto College on Saturday. The first loss was by a score of 21-7, while the Mustangs fell in game two, 9-1
The offense was humming early for the Mustangs, but the Ravens fired back, making it a 7-5 game at the end of two. A six-run third followed by an eight-run fourth for San Jacinto put Monroe into a considerable hole.
Early on, sophomore
Nathalie Mongrain drove in the first run of the game on a single. Sophomore
Georgia Burr then recorded an RBI to put the Mustangs up 3-0. The next inning saw freshman
Lizbeth Zambrano double to left field to score two more runs.
On the game, Zambrano was joined by sophomore
Gabrielle Gonzalez and freshman
Yarializ Maldonado with multiple hits.
In game two, Maldonado and sophomore
Gabriella Diaz recorded multi-hit outings, with Diaz roping a triple in the third inning that eventually led to Monroe's lone run of the contest.
Monroe will host the Empire State Invitational next weekend, with its first matchup coming against Genesee Community College. The doubleheader will begin at 1:00 pm on Friday, March 7 at 1:00 pm.
