Galveston, TX – The Monroe University softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep by the hands of Galveston College on Thursday, losing game one, 4-0, before dropping game two of the series, 6-2.
Following back-to-back shutouts to close out their trip to Georgia last weekend, the Mustangs fell to the Rhinos twice in their first two games of their stint in Texas.
Freshman
Zoey Zamora took the circle in game one and was solid through five innings, but Zamora hit a rough patch in the sixth, ceding three runs to the Rhinos and putting Monroe into a 4-0 hole that would lead to become to final tally.
The Mustangs mustered just three hits — all singles — in the opening matchup.
In game two, the offense came early, with the two sides being tied up at two after 1.5 frames.
After Galveston opened the contest with two runs, the Mustangs with responded with two of their own. Sophomore

Nathalie Mongrain before a pickoff error scored Colon after the Bronx native swiped two bags.
That was all that Monroe would get as it was limited to five hits in the second of two matchups.
The Mustangs will head west for their next doubleheader at Alvin Community College. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Friday.
