Glen Ellyn, IL – The Monroe University men's volleyball team fell to the College of DuPage, 3-1 (26-24, 14-25, 13-25, 20-25) on Friday in a rematch from their previous meeting at the Monroe Invitational.
Freshman
Santiago Valenca continued his strong start to the season with 17 kills on the night. Fellow freshman
Murilo Gibeli generated an impressive 34 assists operating as the frontline setter for the Mustangs.
Monroe prevailed in the first set thanks to 17 kills, but the Chaparrals bounced back with back-to-back victories in set two and three. DuPage combined for 23 kills across the two sets at a 49.6% clip.
A narrow finish to the fourth and final set showed Monroe's improvement from the first matchup a few weeks ago, but it wasn't enough as DuPage emerged victorious, 25-20.
Monroe continues its efforts at the College of DuPage Tournament with a doubleheader on Saturday. Game one against Saint Xavier University is scheduled for 11:00 am, with game two against Judson University set for 3:00 pm.

There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I).
