New Rochelle, NY – After forcing an impressive 36 turnovers, the Monroe University women's basketball team earned a 66-29 victory over Harford Community College on Monday, completing the season sweep of the Fighting Owls.
The usual suspects — the freshmen trio of
Sydney Huskey,
Carlota Lopez and
Kaylyn Lelie — combined for 14 steals on the evening. While the trio of freshmen held down the fort defensively, they also contributed a ton offensively with a combined 44 points.
Sophomore
Qaizden Stephano also supplied 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field.
The Mustangs were utterly dominant defensively in the first quarter, limiting the Fighting Owls to one point and zero made field goals. The effort continued into the second quarter as Monroe outscored Harford, 19-7.
From there, the Mustangs were in steady control of the contest, improving to 18-3 on the year.
Monroe will embark on a two-game road stint for its next two games. First up for the Mustangs is a rematch against the undefeated Division II No. 3 Union College on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
