Yuma, AZ - Monroe University used a dominant second half to pull away from Central Arizona College and earn an 85-70 victory Tuesday morning, improving to 9-4 on the season.
After a tightly contested opening half, the Mustangs carried a narrow 29-27 advantage into the locker room before turning up the pressure in the final 20 minutes. Monroe shot over 60 percent from the field in the second half and was perfect from three-point range, allowing the Mustangs to separate and take control down the stretch.
Naceiar Kirksey paced Monroe with a game-high 18 points, while also contributing on the defensive end with multiple steals and strong ball pressure throughout the contest. Nick Williams followed with 17 points and seven rebounds, providing consistent scoring and physicality inside. Abraham Rosario delivered a spark off the bench, finishing with 13 points on efficient shooting as Monroe's depth proved to be a key factor.
The Mustangs showcased a balanced offensive attack, with five players scoring nine or more points, and dominated the glass to generate numerous second-chance opportunities. Monroe outscored Central Arizona 56-43 after halftime, using timely runs and defensive stops to build a double-digit lead and close out the win.
With the victory, Monroe continues its strong start to the season and will look to build on it during the next two days as they take on Cochise and Arizona Western College.
