BEL AIR, Md., April 27, 2024 – The Monroe College Mustangs baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Harford Community College on Saturday.

GAME 1: Harford 9, Monroe 1
The Mustangs fell into an early hole when the Fighting Owls put two runs on the board in the bottom of the first. After a few scoreless frames, the home team powered its way to a big lead in the fifth and sixth. A solo homer by Robert Phelps in the fifth made it a 3-0 game. In the sixth, the Fighting Owls pulled away with a pair of three-run home runs by Tariq Talley and Rueben Livingston making a 9-0 lead for Harford.
Jeremy De La Mota hit a solo home run for Monroe in the top of the seventh, it was not enough to get the Mustangs back in the game in the final frame.

Daniel DiEdwards took the loss for the Mustangs in Game 1. Joey Colucci earned the win for the Fighting Owls.

De La Mota finished 2-for-2 with his solo homer, his fourth of the season.
Pedro Vasquez and
Gilbert Gomez each hit 1-for-3 in Game 1.

GAME 2: Harford 6, Monroe 0
The Fighting Owls spread out their scoring in Game 2. They put two runs on the board in the first before stretching the lead to 3-0 in the third. Another two runs came across in the fifth before adding one more in the sixth for the 6-0 final.

Sammuel Urena shouldered the loss in Game 2. David Catanese earned the complete-game victory for Harford.

Keldrin Rodriguez and De La Mota each went 1-for-3 in Game 2.

The Mustangs will look to bounce back on Sunday, April 28, when they visit Allegany College of Maryland in Cumberland, Md for another doubleheader. Tomorrow's opener is set to begin at 12 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
