NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., March 23, 2024 – Make it 21 straight set wins for the Monroe College Mustangs in the inaugural season of Region 15 play, as the Mustangs defeated Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) in three Saturday afternoon at the Monroe Athletic Complex. The Mustangs improve to 22-5 overall and stay atop the Region 15 standings at 7-0, while BMCC drops to 3-7 and 3-4.
The Mustangs used a four-point run to take an 11-5 lead on the Panthers early in the first frame. Another five straight later had Monroe up by 10 at 19-9. They reached set point at 24-11 before closing out the opening set with a 25-12 win.
A slower start in the second stanza saw both teams knotted up at 7-7. The Mustangs then rattled off seven consecutive points to double up the Panthers. A 4-0 run late in the game made it a 21-11 score, and then one more four-point run for the Mustangs closed out the set with another 25-12 victory to take a two-set lead on the afternoon.
Monroe quickly went up, 7-3, on BMCC in the third set. After a service error cut Monroe's lead to six later in the frame, four straight kills for the Mustangs had them up, 18-8. BMCC then made a push, cutting the deficit down to five at 19-14. A 4-1 run by the Panthers made it a three-point difference, but the Mustangs rebounded, scoring three straight to reach match point at 24-18, eventually wrapping up the day with a 25-19 win.
Arnau Riu Giralt finished with a team-high eight kills to go with two blocks and an ace.
Briggs Wieboldt was next with seven kills.
Gabriel Stokes registered a season-high six kills with a pair of blocks.
Damian Baker had five kills with an ace and a block, while
Devounte Bennett totaled four kills and two blocks.
Timothy Reyes handed out 28 assists in the win, adding six digs and an ace.
Arthur Rosa led the team with seven digs on the afternoon.
Joe Kieler finished with three kills, two blocks and six digs.
The Mustangs cap off the regular season with their final Region 15 match of the year. The Mustangs host Monroe College-Bronx this Wednesday, March 27, for the first-ever Monroe Mustangs men's volleyball Sophomore Night at the Monroe Athletic Complex. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m., with the Sophomore Night celebration taking place shortly beforehand.

The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I).
