NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., March 20, 2024 – The Monroe College Mustangs men's volleyball team continued its hot streak against Region 15 opponents on Wednesday, defeating Nassau Community College in three sets at the Monroe Athletic Complex. The Mustangs improve to 21-5 on the season and 6-0 in Region 15 (18-0 in sets vs. Region 15 teams), while Nassau drops to 7-11 overall and 5-2 in region.

Nassau got the early leg up on the Mustangs in Wednesday's opening set, jumping out to an 8-4 lead. The Lions' lead fell to 13-12 before a 5-1 run for the Mustangs had the home team up, 17-14. Nassau quickly got back within a point at 18-17, and soon after remained just a point down at 20-19. Monroe then took control with the final five points of the set, picking up a 25-19 victory to go up a set in the match.

Monroe sprinted out to a 10-4 advantage early in the second stanza and never looked back. The Mustangs steadily pulled away from the Lions, using a three-point run late in the game to take a 22-12 edge. Nassau scored 5-of-7 to cut the deficit to seven points, but the Mustangs got a kill from Briggs Wieboldt to wrap up the set at 25-17 for a 2-0 lead on the night.

The Mustangs once again looked to run away with the third set when they went up, 9-3. Monroe's lead was 16-9 before Nassau made a push to get back in the game. A 5-1 run had the visitors back within two at 18-16. Kills by Joe Kieler and Timothy Reyes gave Monroe some cushion before another point by Nassau made it a 20-17 game. Monroe then went on one final run, scoring five straight points to close out the match with a 25-17 win.

Damian Baker led the Mustangs with nine kills and three blocks in the win, hitting .615 in the process. Wieboldt was right behind him with eight kills and two blocks, picking up three digs as well. Kieler threw down six kills (.600 clip) with two digs. Reyes dished out 27 assists to go with two aces, five digs and a block. Arnau Riu Giralt and Arthur Rosa both matched Reyes with five digs to share the team lead. Devounte Bennett registered three kills and two blocks.
