NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., February 4, 2024 – The Monroe College Mustangs JV men's basketball team picked up its sixth straight victory on Sunday at the Monroe Athletic Complex, defeating Touro University, 84-64. The Mustangs improve to 15-8 overall with the win.

The Mustangs were hot to open the game, with a pair of threes by
Clinton Johnson and
Carey Grace-Joy, along with a
Turone Kelley jumper, putting the Mustangs up, 8-0, just 66 seconds into the game. Another six-point run for Monroe a few minutes later had the Mustangs up, 16-6.

A pair of
Xavier Washington threes had Monroe up by 12 with just seven minutes left until halftime. While the Tornadoes kept up with the Mustangs down the stretch, a three by Grace-Joy with 1:10 to give Monroe a 14-point advantage. Danzel Langlaise hit a three of his own for Touro, but Kelley provided a layup for the final points of the half to leave Monroe up, 44-31, heading to the break.

The first four buckets of the second half were three-pointers back-and-forth from each team. Johnson and Grace-Joy provided the two long balls for Monroe, and then Grace-Joy ended the trend with a jumper to make it a 15-point game. After one more three by Touro, the Mustangs made five straight baskets for a 10-0 run to push the lead to 62-40. Eight straight by Monroe later made it a 70-43 game. The runs kept coming for Monroe, with a 9-2 stretch making it a 28-point lead. The Tornadoes were able to chip away at the deficit a bit the rest of the way, but the Mustangs wrapped things up for a 20-point victory.

Grace-Joy led the Mustangs with 18 points in the win after shooting 7-of-10 from the field and 4-for-6 from three-point range.
Jordan Sanders and Washington each tallied 11 points in the game.
Joel Ghiterman followed them up with 10. Sanders and
De'Angelo Owens matched for a team-high five assists, while Owens stole the ball four times.

The Mustangs are back at it at the MAC on Wednesday, Feb. 7, when they host Shots with Patience Prep for a 7 p.m. tip-off.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
