NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., February 7, 2024 – The Monroe College Mustangs JV men's basketball team's impressive six-game winning streak came to an unfortunate end Wednesday evening as the Mustangs dropped a 95-88 final to Shots with Patience Prep at the Monroe Athletic Complex. Monroe falls to 15-9 overall with the loss.

After Shots with Patience opened up with a 6-2 lead, the Mustangs bounced back to jump ahead, 12-11. The visitors started to heat up, scoring 12 of the next 15 points, including a trio of threes, to take a 23-15 advantage. Monroe chipped away to get within three with 1:06 left in the half, but Shots with Patience's Aaron Levy hit a three for the last points of the half to leave the visitors up, 41-35, heading to halftime.

Jordan Sanders and
Turone Kelley each had 11 points at the break. Sanders led the team with five rebounds and a pair of steals, while Kelley dished out a pair of assists.
Armani Walker matched Sanders' team high of five boards.

The outcome of Wednesday's game was looking grim for Monroe after Shots with Patience pushed its lead to 65-53 with 12:56 on the clock. The Mustangs then flipped the script, scoring 13 straight points to jump into the lead, 66-65. Monroe took a 70-67 lead on their guests before Shots with Patience turned things back around with a 11-0 run to go up, 78-70. Monroe was back within five before Shots with Patience scored five straight to make it an 85-75 game with just 1:44 to go.
Carey Grace-Joy drained a three, and then
De'Angelo Owens sank a layup with 1:01 on the clock to make it a five-point game heading into the final minute. The Mustangs began to foul, and the visitors made their chances at the line to hold off Monroe and end the Mustangs' win streak.

Grace-Joy did his best to will Monroe back in the game, finishing with a new season-high of 28 points in the game. Kelley doubled-up his first half total with 22 points on the night, completing a double-double with 10 rebounds. Sanders tallied 16 points with six boards and three steals. Owens led the way with four assists to go with five points and three steals.
Clinton Johnson picked up eight points in the game.

The Mustangs are back on the road this Saturday, Feb. 10, to visit SUNY Sullivan JV in Loch Sheldrake, N.Y. Saturday's tip-off is set for 1 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
