New Rochelle, NY – After seeing its five-game win streak snapped in its last outing against Washington Adventist JV, the Monroe University JV men's basketball team responded in a big way by defeating Harcum College JV 107-83 on Tuesday night.
It was the first time this season that the Mustangs surpassed the century mark. The team is now averaging 81.4 points per game after posting a wire-to-wire victory over the Bears.
Both sophomore
Luther Reid Jr. and
Jamell Williams poured in 20-plus points, with Reid Jr. leading the way with 24 points on eight made three-pointers. Williams connected on four triples off the bench. Every Mustang that touched the floor recorded a point.
The Mustangs had a stellar first half. Freshman
Ariel Font scored a layup to put the team up 29-10 at the midway point of the half. Although Harcum outscored Monroe 22-19 from that point on, the home team was in clear control of the contest.
Reid Jr. scored an impressive 18 points in the first half, shooting 6-for-13 from beyond the arc. Sophomore
Turone Kelley Jr. added an extra ten points as the Mustangs entered the break up 48-32.
A back-and-forth second half saw the Mustangs scored a whopping 59 points — 20 of those being from Williams as the freshman dominated.
A 10-0 run led by Williams sent the crowd into a frenzy. Williams began the run with a three-pointer before freshman
Armani Walker got up for a thunderous dunk. Reid Jr. then connected on his eighth three of the night before Williams bookended the run with a fast break layup off a steal from Reid Jr. The closing three buckets of the run all came off Harcum turnovers.
Williams then ended the contest with another three, putting the Mustangs at a season-high 107.
The Mustangs will head to Pennsylvania for their next outing, which is scheduled for Friday, December 13 at 7:00 pm against Clarks Summit University JV.
