Men's Basketball Earns 89-69 Victory Over Allegany

New Rochelle, NY – The Monroe University men's basketball team moved to 2-0 at the Monroe University Invitational with an 89-69 victory over Allegany College of Maryland on Friday evening.

It was once again sophomore Jordan Sanders who supplied the spark plug for the Mustangs, pouring in a game-high 20 points on six threes, continuing his stellar slate of games for the host team.

Freshman Eric Mejia packed the stat sheet with 11 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, while sophomores Devere Palmer Jr. and Ryan Williams Jr. joined the double-digit scoring club with 13 and 11 points respectively.

Freshman Jago Robinson rounded out the double-digit scorers with ten points across ten minutes.

It was a wire-to-wire victory for the Mustangs as they took a 16-0 lead early. While the Trojans put together a solid run to cut the deficit to ten with just over ten minutes remaining in the half, they were never able to gain traction on Monroe.

Distance on the scoreboard was in large part due to Monroe connecting on its free throws, making 17-of-21. It also controlled the boards, outpacing the Trojans by 16 rebounds. That disparity resulted in 34 points in the paint compared to Allegany's 12.

A dunk from Robinson with 6:39 to go in the game pushed the lead to a game-high 30.

With the game out of reach, Robinson finished the final few minutes with seven of his ten points, while freshmen Kylian 't Hart, Faquir Mosley and Chilaka Munachimso Godswill each contributed two points across the final stages of the game.

Monroe awaits a big test in its final game of the invitational, which is scheduled for Saturday at 3:00 pm against No. 3 Northwest Florida State College.
