Takoma Park, MD – The Monroe University women's volleyball team continued its stretch of straight set victories on Friday afternoon, defeating Washington Adventist (25-14, 25-21, 25-19).
After extending its winning streak to 12 sets in a row on Thursday against Carroll Community College, Monroe made it 15 in a row against the Shock, matching its season-high streak set between September 14-21.
The Mustangs were fueled by a comfortable first set, one that saw the visitors manage just ten kills. Minimal offensive opportunities led to a lopsided 11-point advantage, pushing the squad's streak to 13 sets.
The next set was Monroe's closest in its recent surge of straight set victories, winning by a slim margin of four points. But a match-high 17 kills in the set helped dictate the tone of the session, leading to a victory for the Mustangs.
In the final set, the Mustangs once again capitalized on miscues from Washington Adventist, winning the set by six points.
Freshman
Jelena Peric continued her dominant two-game stretch with a team-high ten kills against the Shock. Freshmen
Flavia Pecora and
Natalia Rodriguez each contributed eight kills in the win.
The Mustangs will continue to compete in the Mid-Atlantic on Tuesday, October 8 when they take on Montgomery College in Rockville, MD at 4:00 pm for their next matchup.
