Women's Volleyball Secures Sixth Straight Win At Montgomery College

Rockville, MD – The Monroe University women's volleyball team's win streak moved to six as it defeated Montgomery College (MD), 3-1 (25-13, 25-21, 23-25, 26-24), on Tuesday.

The Mustangs totaled 44 kills compared to 28 from the Raptors.

Freshman Jelena Peric led the way for the third consecutive match with 13 kills.

It was a dominant first set by the Mustangs, winning by 12 points. Three straight kills to start off the match set the tone for the day, with Peric collecting two of the three and freshman Natalia Rodriguez garnering a kill as well.

As the set went on, errors by the Raptors dictated the tempo of the set, allowing Monroe to coast to a victory. But Montgomery took a stand in set two, jumping out to its own 3-0 lead.

A five-point run late in the set, however, turned a 19-18 contest into a 24-18 advantage for the Mustangs, eventually leading to the victory.

Montgomery got one over Monroe in the third set after trailing for a majority of the set. Two late kills and a service ace changed the momentum as the Raptors snapped Monroe's 17 set win streak.

Despite losing its straight-set victory streak, Monroe rebounded nicely in the fourth set to emerge victorious on the road once again. A kill from freshman Madison Smith and a attacking error set up the match point, one in which was earned via kill by freshman Fabiana Lopez

The Mustangs move to 17-4 on the year and will next take on Anne Arundel Community College on Friday, October 11, at 6:00 pm.
