NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., January 30, 2024 – After an exciting first season of NJCAA men's volleyball play that saw the Monroe College Mustangs men's volleyball team finish as the runner-up at the 2023 NJCAA Men's Volleyball Invitational, the Mustangs are back for Year 2 with their sights set on finishing what they started a year ago.
Monroe's inaugural season saw the Mustangs go a perfect 11-0 in the regular season against NJCAA opponents, having lost just one set along the way. The Mustangs also got a lot of good experience with exhibitions against tough NCAA competition. Monroe was a top seed heading into the inaugural NJCAA Men's Volleyball Invitational, but ultimately lost twice to Finger Lakes Community College during the tournament, including in the championship match, to finish as the invitational's runner-up.
The Mustangs come into 2024 looking like one of the favorites in the NJCAA once again. Monroe returns five sophomores from last year's debut squad, adding nine freshman newcomers to the mix. The Mustangs have a melting pot roster again in 2024, with student-athletes coming from six U.S. states and territories, as well as six different countries. Sophomores
Joe Kieler and
Timothy Reyes were selected by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as
Two-Year College Men's Players to Watch ahead of the 2024 opener.
