EUNICE, La., February 11, 2023 – Game 2 of the four-game set this weekend between the Monroe College Mustangs baseball team and NJCAA Div. II No. 3 LSU Eunice went to the host Bengals on Saturday by a score of 13-1 in seven innings at Bengal Stadium. LSU Eunice improves to 9-0 on the year with the win, while the Mustangs fall to 0-2.

The Mustangs took the first lead of the game in the top of the third.
Jordy Batista led off with a double to center, and was then knocked in by
Gilbert Gomez with one away to put the Mustangs ahead, 1-0.

Unfortunately, that was it for Monroe's scoring in the game, and the Bengals quickly took over with a five-run third. The Bengals picked up another five runs in the fourth before tallying their final three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Owen Schexnaydre earned the win for the Bengals with five innings of one-run ball to improve to 2-0 on the year.
Jean Ortiz took the loss in his first start of the season for Monroe.

Gomez finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and a stolen base. Batista batted 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Pedro Vasquez hit 1-for-3 in the game.

The Mustangs will have the opportunity to earn a series split with the Bengals on Sunday when the two teams face off in a doubleheader at Bengal Stadium. Game 1 tomorrow is slated for a 2 p.m. EST first pitch.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 11 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
