HUTCHINSON, Kan., May 21, 2022 –
Farrah Miller captured the women's 800-meter run national championship on Saturday, delivering the biggest contribution to the Monroe College Mustangs track and field team's eighth-place finish at the 2022 NJCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hutchinson Community College's Gowans Stadium.
After taking sixth place in the 800m at the 2022 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships back in March, Miller stepped her game up in Saturday's 800m finals. Miller ran a time of 2:13.21 to earn the NJCAA National Championship in the event. Miller's terrific performance also earns her the honor of being named a NJCAA First-Team All-American for the 800m.
Aaliyah Moore also ran with Miller in the finals of the 800m on Friday. She registered a time of 2:19.10, taking eighth place to earn her spot on the podium with her teammate. Moore earned herself United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-America distinction with her podium finish.
Moore's 800m performance came after her run in the 1,500-meter run finals earlier in the day on Saturday. Moore crossed the line in 4:50.73 in the 1500m finals, securing third place overall in the event.
Tshwanelo Maruping ran alongside Moore in the 1500m on Saturday, clocking in at 4:51.24 to take fourth place in the race. Both are named USTFCCCA All-Americans for the event after their outstanding showings.
Chinenye Onuorah competed in the finals of the 400-meter dash on Day 3 of the NJCAA Outdoor Championships. She ran the race in 56.88 seconds, picking up a fifth place overall finish to put herself on the podium. Onuorah will also come home as a USTFCCCA All-American in the 400m.
The NJCAA Outdoor Championships marked the end of the 2022 outdoor season. The Mustangs track and field and cross country program made a return to full competition in 2021-22 after missing the 2020 cross country season and the 2021 indoor track and field season. Monroe will look to build on this year's success when the program gets back to work in the fall 2022 season.
