PRINCETON, N.J., April 15, 2022 –
Tshwanelo Maruping impressively found her way into the Monroe College Mustangs women's track and field team's outdoor record book on Friday, breaking Monroe's 3,000-meter steeplechase record to highlight the Mustangs' day at the first day of the Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton University at Weaver Stadium.
Maruping broke a record set seven years ago by Atara Segree (11:49.77 – 2015). She ran a time of 11:40.53, which also qualifies her for the 2022 NJCAA Div. I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the event. Maruping now holds the third-fastest time in the NJCAA so far this season, just three seconds behind the NJCAA's leader in the event.
Aaliyah Moore competed in the 800-meter run event on Friday. Moore won Heat 3 with a time of 2:12.54, finishing 15th overall out of 35 finishers as the only NJCAA student-athlete in the race.
Kristin Stickdorn competed in the first of two events that she will participate in this weekend on Friday. In the hammer throw, she made a best throw of 47.33 meters.
Day 2 of the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University is set for Saturday, April 16. The meet begins at 11 a.m.
